Potatoes

It is estimated that 22,000 acres of potatoes are grown in Ireland every year, and according to research by the IFA one potato is bought every second in Irish retailers. In 2017, 1.67 million households purchased 208k tonnes of the crop.

The main crop protection challenges in potatoes are potato cyst nematode and potato blight.

The number of potato grower has fallen dramatically in the last 10 years reflecting the level of commitment required to grow a crop that meets the demands of the industry and consumers. However, BASF provides a range of products that helps to make growing potatoes more viable for farmers in the UK.
